About Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill
The Rotary Club of Beau Bassin–Rose Hill is a community service organisation dedicated to creating lasting impact across Mauritius through projects in health, education, inclusion and community development.
Founded in June 1989 under the early guidance of PDG Kailash Ramdenee and formally chartered in November 1989 under Charter President PP Guy Ducasse, we became the 6th Rotary club chartered in Mauritius, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes. For over 35 years, we have been a trusted partner in service, leadership and community development.
Our work has never been confined to one neighbourhood. Over the decades, we have established centres for children with disabilities, funded life‑saving surgeries, donated medical equipment to the Ministry of Health, set up school canteens, provided transport for vulnerable children, organised island‑wide health and eye‑screening camps, and responded to national crises when our country needed it most.
Guided by the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”, we see every project as an opportunity to serve, to connect and to help build a more inclusive, resilient and hopeful Mauritius — for individuals, families and communities across the island.
“We do not simply do charity. We create change.”

Our Milestones
Since 1989, Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill has delivered projects that have changed lives across Mauritius. These are some of the milestones that define our journey.
Our Journey
1989
Formally chartered in November 1989 as the 6th Rotary Club in Mauritius, under Charter President PP Guy Ducasse, with sponsorship from the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes.
Early 2000s — Paul Harris House, Mont Roches
In partnership with APRIM and with the support of the Government of Mauritius, the club established Paul Harris House in Mont Roches — a dedicated centre for children with physical and mental disabilities. The club also provided a dedicated transport van, ensuring children could be collected from home and brought to the centre each day.
School Canteen, Beau Bassin
Established a fully operational school canteen to ensure pupils from all backgrounds had access to proper nutrition alongside their education.
Health & Medical Programmes
Donated critical medical equipment to the Ministry of Health. Provided support for renal transplant programmes and the Little Heart Foundation — funding cardiac surgery for children who could not access it otherwise.
2020 — MV Wakashio Oil Spill Response
Mobilised members to assist in the national response to the MV Wakashio oil spill, which devastated Mauritius's southern coastline.
2024/25 — Blind Night: A Dinner in the Dark
Launched Blind Night — an immersive fundraising gala where guests dine in complete darkness to experience the reality of visual impairment firsthand. The event culminates in a choreographed light-and-sound reveal and charity auction, raising funds for eye health programmes and inclusion initiatives.
Our Projects & Impact
For more than 35 years, Rotary Club of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill has been delivering meaningful projects that improve lives and strengthen communities across Mauritius.
Paul Harris House & Inclusion
Our most enduring legacy. In partnership with APRIM and the Government of Mauritius, we established Paul Harris House in Mont Roches — a dedicated centre for children with physical and mental disabilities — and provided daily transport to ensure every child could attend.
Health Programmes
From donating medical equipment to the Ministry of Health, to supporting renal transplant programmes and funding cardiac surgery for children through the Little Heart Foundation — health has always been at the heart of our mission. We also run regular community health camps and preventive screening programmes across the island.
Education & Youth
We established a school canteen in Beau Bassin to ensure pupils have access to proper nutrition. Through scholarships, mentoring and our Interact and Rotaract clubs, we invest in the next generation of Mauritian leaders.
Community Support & Emergency Response
When Mauritius needs us, we show up. From welfare assistance and family support to our response to the MV Wakashio oil spill, our members mobilise quickly and practically.
Blind Night — A Dinner in the Dark
Our latest flagship event invites guests to dine in complete darkness — experiencing firsthand the daily reality of visual impairment. A dramatic light-and-sound reveal, speeches and a charity auction follow. More than a fundraiser: an experience that turns empathy into action.
Our Events
Our events bring people together to raise awareness, support meaningful causes and create lasting impact in the community.
Blind Night
Blind Night is one of our signature fundraising events, offering guests a unique experience in darkness to raise awareness about visual impairment and support eye health initiatives.

Community Health Camps
Our health camps support prevention and early detection through screenings, health education and referrals to specialist care where needed.

Youth & Education Activities
These activities encourage learning, leadership and personal development while supporting schools and young people in the community.
